As the year winds down and a new one stands on the horizon, it’s tempting to rush straight into goal-setting, vision boards, and fancy planners. But before you write a single resolution, there’s a much more powerful step to take first:
Pause and assess where you truly are with your health and well-being.
Not where you think you should be. Not where you used to be. But where you are right now — in your body, mind, and daily habits.
Awareness is the foundation of real change. And clarity is far more empowering than any quick-fix resolution.
Here is a simple 7-step self-assessment you can use as your personal year-end wellness check-in:
Step 1: Energy Check
On a scale of 1–10, how is your energy most days?
-
- Are you waking up refreshed or hitting the snooze button multiple times?
- Do you rely on caffeine or sugar to push through the day?
- When do you feel most drained?
Prompt: What seems to give me energy? What seems to drain it?
Step 2: Relationship With Food
How do you really feel about the way you’re eating?
-
- Are you nourishing your body or just feeding it quickly?
- Are emotional, stress, or boredom eating patterns present?
- Do you feel in control or out of control around food?
Prompt: Do my food choices support the version of me I’m becoming?
Step 3: Movement & Strength
Are you moving your body with intention?
-
- Are you maintaining muscle, flexibility, and balance?
- Do you mostly sit or do you prioritize movement?
- Does exercise feel like punishment or empowerment?
Prompt: What kind of movement do I enjoy, and how often am I doing it?
Step 4: Sleep Quality
Sleep is a pillar of wellness, not a luxury.
-
- How many hours of quality sleep are you getting?
- Are you waking in the middle of the night?
- Do you feel rested when you wake up?
Prompt: What gets in the way of my best sleep?
Step 5: Stress & Overwhelm
Your nervous system tells the truth.
-
- How often do you feel overwhelmed?
- Can you easily relax, or are you always “on”?
- Do you have healthy outlets for stress?
Prompt: What are my biggest stress triggers — and how do I respond to them?
Step 6: Mental & Emotional Clarity
How clear and focused are you?
-
- Are you experiencing brain fog or forgetfulness?
- Do you feel positive and hopeful, or discouraged and stuck?
- Do you take time to check in with your emotions?
Prompt: What thoughts do I repeat most often about myself and my health?
Step 7: Alignment Check
This is where everything comes together.
-
- Are your current habits aligned with how you want to feel next year?
- If nothing changed, how would your health look in 12 months?
- Is that acceptable to you?
Prompt: What am I no longer willing to tolerate when it comes to my health?
Your Next Step: Don’t Do This Alone
Once you’re honest with yourself about where you are, the next question is simple:
Who is going to support you in getting where you want to go?
Most people underestimate how much faster and more sustainable change becomes with the right guide, accountability partner, and strategy.
A health coach doesn’t just give you information — they help you:
-
- Create a clear, personalized plan
- Build consistent habits
- Navigate setbacks
- Stay motivated when life gets busy
- Turn intention into action
